Why Robert Mueller Should Not Be Special Counsel

In a surprise move the Department of Justice via acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein named Robert Mueller, a former FBI head, as a special counsel to ostensibly oversee the bureau’s probe into Russia’s attempts to influence the 2016 election.

The White House was given only about 30 minutes warning before the announcement was made.

Mueller’s appointment was “not a finding that crimes have been committed,” Rosenstein said in a statement.

But, according to former FBI Assistant Director, James Kallstrom, there are serious crimes that the special counsel must focus on.

Attacks on Nunes Unwarranted

A sizable portion of the Democratic Party has been busily investing significant media capital to promote the false narrative that Russian interference in the presidential election is to blame for Hillary Clinton’s stunning loss.

Evidently, members of this same intractable liberal faction have now turned their attention toward their next target in what appears to be an endless roster of individuals that the Democrats can go about systematically disparaging, discrediting, and sometimes seeking to destroy, in a political sense.

GOP Congressman Devin Nunes looks to be the next one up. The House Intelligence Committee Chairman recently endured an assault carried out by means of partisan political hyperbole.

Real Congressional Probe of Obama Surveillance Tactics Sorely Needed

Lost in the mainstream media push to have the public accept the tall tale that “the Russians hacked the election,” which appears to have been crafted by disaffected Democrats and their far-left allies, is a series of unresolved issues that are in serious need of investigation.

After a classified report delivered to Congress by the Justice Department purportedly lacked the necessary evidence to support President Donald Trump’s assertion that his predecessor had engaged in wiretapping, politicians and news outlets began to massage the public psyche with the notion that the story involving the Obama administration’s investigation of then-candidate Trump, and of individuals involved in his campaign, is somehow a closed book.

President Trump`s Justice Department Begins to Drain the Swamp

The Trump administration, via its attorney general, recently asked for the resignation of all remaining Obama-appointed U.S. attorneys, which is, in fact, a change of personnel in which new administrations routinely engage.

However, the media reporting by the mainstream press and broadcast media has been anything but routine; rather, the coverage has been somewhat hysterical in nature.

“Trump Abruptly Orders 46 Obama-Era Prosecutors to Resign,” the New York Times stated in an overly dramatic headline.

CNN focused on the emotional reaction of Obama appointees with a story titled: “Anger mounts over handling of US attorney firings.”

Beyond McCarthyism

Recent actions and rhetoric of Democratic Party operatives and mainstream media figures are evoking the same undesirable label.

From newspaper opinion pieces to social media posts, the ghost of Senator Joseph McCarthy roams the D.C. corridors and McCarthyism permeates the Democrat playbook, punctuated with the leadership’s incessant murmurings of “the Russians hacked the election.”

As fallout of his investigation in the 1950s into Russian connections in the United States, McCarthy was accused of conducting a “witch hunt” and was also indelibly linked to the Hollywood blacklist era.

Leak Investigations May Lead to Unexpected Places

A mere days before then-president-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, former President Barack Obama expanded the ability of intelligence agencies to share unfiltered telephone surveillance information.

The Obama administration issued Executive Order 12333, which allows the National Security Agency (NSA) to share raw intercepted communications with agencies that include the FBI, DEA, and Department of Homeland Security, among others.

Numerous press reports at the time indicated that the Obama Justice Department and the FBI sought Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants against Trump campaign insiders and then-presidential candidate Trump himself during the final months of the presidential campaign.
