Comey’s Testimony Requires Special Counsel to Step Down

In a stunning turn of events, former FBI Director James Comey made a recent admission during his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee that he intentionally leaked to the press details of his private conversations with the president, and that he did so in order to prod the Department of Justice to appoint a special counsel.

The unprecedented nature of this part of Comey’s testimony can be summed up in this way: The director of the top law enforcement organization in the U.S. intentionally leaked documents to the media in order to manipulate the system, and Comey’s surreptitious action came after the president on numerous occasions had asked him to investigate leakers.

Why Robert Mueller Should Not Be Special Counsel

In a surprise move the Department of Justice via acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein named Robert Mueller, a former FBI head, as a special counsel to ostensibly oversee the bureau’s probe into Russia’s attempts to influence the 2016 election.

The White House was given only about 30 minutes warning before the announcement was made.

Mueller’s appointment was “not a finding that crimes have been committed,” Rosenstein said in a statement.

But, according to former FBI Assistant Director, James Kallstrom, there are serious crimes that the special counsel must focus on.
