A California Nightmare: Late-term Abortions with No Limits

California is potentially poised to sink into an unimaginable bad dream.

It is one in which politicians and lawmakers are presently taking delight at the thought of voters signing on to a ballot proposition this November, which would amend the California Constitution so abortions would have absolutely no limitations.

Feelings on the part of a lot of average everyday Californians who are aware of what is being proposed are those of shock and revulsion. But there is also a high degree of fear that too many of their fellow residents aren’t sharing their same feelings.

California’s Proposition 1 seeks to permit the lives of babies in the womb to be terminated right up to the moment of birth.

Abortion procedures would be allowed to be conducted during any stage of pregnancy, regardless of whether or not a mother’s life was in danger. Furthermore, abortions would be able to be carried out on infants who, in other more welcoming circumstances, would be duly capable of surviving outside of the womb.

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced plans for a billboard campaign that is to be conducted in states where abortion is more restrictive.

Well, the billboard campaign appears to be moving ahead.

He reportedly plans to use a portion of his re-election campaign funds to buy billboard space in the states of Indiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and Texas.

Some life-denying billboards display a pro-abortion invitation of sorts, accompanied by a Bible verse from Mark 12:31, which reads: “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.”

The governor also took to Twitter to spread the unholy message, with several Republican governors being tagged, including Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves. His tweet read in part, “To any woman seeking an abortion in these anti-freedom states: CA will defend your right to make decisions about your health.”

Christians across the country who have been affected by the billboard messaging are understandably offended.

Thankfully, two prominent religious leaders have courageously entered the public square to help enlighten folks on issues relating to the matter.

John MacArthur, author, televangelist and pastor of a non-denominational Southern California mega-church, expressed concern over the governor’s soul and took him to task for “shamelessly” misquoting the Bible for political purposes.

The pastor pulled no punches in his open letter to the governor.

Utilizing passages from Scripture in his response, Pastor MacArthur noted that the governor had “…compounded the wickedness of that murderous campaign with a reprehensible act of gross blasphemy, quoting the very words of Jesus from Mark 12:31 as if you could somehow twist His meaning and arrogate His name in favor of butchering unborn infants.”

Pastor MacArthur’s letter additionally shed light on what he characterized as the “diabolical effect” of the governor’s policies that have tarnished the once-Golden State and contributed to “California’s epidemics of crime, homelessness, sexual perversions, and other malignant expressions of human misery that stem directly from corrupt public policy.”

The pastor concluded with assurances that prayers were forthcoming from “countless Christians nationwide.”

Another prominent California religious leader has also spoken out in defense of human life and against the life-destroying policies and politics that state leaders are pursuing.

San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has been a consistent voice for the rights of the unborn. His Excellency recently spoke to the media and also penned a letter to the archdiocese, asking parishioners to vote “No” on Proposition 1.

In an interview, Archbishop Cordileone noted that the proposition, as written, “would seem to allow abortion in all nine months of pregnancy up to birth. But it ignores that once conception has taken place, reproduction has already happened.”

Under existing California law, there are no limitations on abortions performed during the first six months of pregnancy.

However, should Proposition 1 pass, the life-ending practice, currently permitted during the third trimester of pregnancy only if there is a threat to the life or health of the mother, would be expanded, thereby eliminating even the nominal safety provisions that are presently in place for pre-born babies who are in the womb for the full term.

With regard to the governor’s claim that he wants the state to be an “abortion sanctuary,” Archbishop Cordileone pointed out, “The irony is that a sanctuary is designed to protect life, whereas these measures harm it.”

His Excellency indicated that the anti-life policy being pushed by California “furthers the mentality that pregnancy is an inconvenience and that abortion is the only option a woman has.”

The archbishop further noted that the state appears to have an ample supply of taxpayer money to pay for abortions “but no money for crisis pregnancy centers, which can help a woman to have her child.”

Archbishop Cordileone asked those who are pushing abortion the following questions: “Why are you limiting a woman’s rights? If it is okay to have an abortion a day before a baby is born, why not the day after? Why not a month later, or six months or a year? Why can’t a young mother, after having a baby and raising that child for six months say, ‘I can’t do this. It is too hard,’ and be allowed to kill that child?”

“Laws need to be grounded in sound reasoning, that human life begins at conception and must be protected,” the archbishop explained.

Science has long settled the principle that at the moment of fertilization a new life is created, which has unique genetic attributes. Therefore, as the archbishop stated, “It can never be right to procure an abortion, just as it would never be right to kill a newborn baby.”

On a scriptural note, both Pastor MacArthur and Archbishop Cordileone reminded those who have ears to hear about a pagan entity from the Old Testament. Some of the ancient Israelites fell into the worship of false gods, which included sacrificing children to a pagan deity of a neighboring nation, Molech.

Pastor MacArthur invoked the Old Testament, writing that the governor had “used the name and the words of Christ to promote the credo of Molech (Leviticus 20:1–5).”

“It would be hard to imagine a greater sacrilege,” the pastor commented.

Archbishop Cordileone quoted Psalm 106: “They worshipped those nation’s false gods, till they found themselves entrapped, and sacrificed their own sons and their daughters to demons.”

His Excellency cited a passage from the Old Testament (Leviticus 18:21), “You shall not give any of your children to devote them by fire to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.”

Best to heed our religious leaders’ words. If we don’t, California’s bad dream will become America’s nightmare.

The Re-reversal of Roe v. Wade

While millions of people were, and still are, trying to process the events of the past several weeks, here’s what has been happening on the abortion front.

Ever since the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the highly flawed Roe v. Wade decision, there has been an ongoing attempt by the Democrats to reverse the reversal.

It has taken a number of different forms.

– Vice President Kamala Harris has been off on a state-to-state tour in which she has made a series of speeches, held meetings with pro-abortion leaders, and denigrated the U.S. Supreme Court for its reversal of Roe v. Wade.

– Democrats, including the president, have pushed to negate the Supreme Court’s ruling by “codifying” Roe.

To this end, the president signed an executive order, which, under the auspices of “federal non-discrimination laws,” directs Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra to utilize “all appropriate actions” in carrying out abortions.

The order additionally directs HHS to consider actions that enable women to travel across state lines to obtain abortions. This order from the executive branch came after Democrats were unable to implement the same policies via the legislative process.

– Numerous Democrat leaders have publicly scorned the Supreme Court, referring to the overturning of Roe, as well as the High Court itself, as illegitimate; this while simultaneously proposing that the federal government offer abortions at national parks and military facilities and on Native American territory.

Additionally, major companies that are allies of the Democrats have committed to dole out travel dollars so that their employees, when necessary, can secure their abortions out-of-state.

– Meanwhile Congress was hard at work on a ridiculously titled piece of legislation known as the “Inflation Reduction Act,” which was recently approved and awaits the president’s signature. It is another massive spending bill to the tune of $740 billion.

Hidden in the pages of this tax and spending spree is a provision that thwarts the will of the majority of Americans and is also a possible violation of law.

The bill provides $64 billion in funding for tax credits related to Obamacare plans that cover abortions. It further extends the tax credits through the year 2025, continuing subsidies for health insurance plans on Obamacare exchanges that fund abortion on demand.

This provision of the Inflation Reduction Act is in direct violation of the Hyde Amendment, a law that specifically bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortions, exceptions being pregnancies arising from incest or rape or those deemed necessary to save the life of the woman.

Interestingly, polls consistently indicate that a solid majority of the public opposes taxpayer funding of abortions. In January 2022, a Marist University poll found 54 percent of Americans oppose using tax money to fund abortions and 73 percent oppose using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions in countries outside of the U.S.

Andrew Guernsey, executive director of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus, said that the provision expanding Obamacare exchange plans that cover abortions is a “blatant” violation of the Hyde Amendment.

“Many of the estimated 10 million people affected by expanded subsidies, including an estimated 3 million Americans who would drop out of, or be ineligible for, Obamacare exchange plans but for these expanded subsidies, have been driven into taxpayer-funded plans that cover elective abortion,” Guernsey said.

The HHS has proposed a rule change that would combine payment and accounting requirements related to abortion together with general health care costs.

A group of concerned Republican senators recently addressed a letter to Secretary Becerra, voicing opposition to the proposed change.

One thing is crystal clear. The battle to save the lives of our babies and grandbabies is far from over.

Domestic Terrorism Waged Against Pregnancy Centers and Houses of Worship

Ever since a leaked draft opinion went public, which indicated that the U.S. Supreme Court was about to overturn Roe v. Wade, vicious attacks began to be carried out against facilities that offer women health care, counseling, financial assistance, and multiple alternatives to the pregnancy-ending option of abortion.

In addition to the centers, houses of worship have been the target of similar kinds of assaults, including destruction of property and physical harm to individuals. Dozens of church campuses and parish facilities across the country have been firebombed, burned, looted, and vandalized by abortion-advocating extremists.

In many cases, culprits leave behind the ugliest of trademarks, which oftentimes include spray-painted graffiti with rallying cries the likes of “If abortion ain’t safe, you ain’t safe.”

A pro-abortion organization, which identifies itself as “Jane’s Revenge,” is taking credit for many of the attacks. The group issued a public communication earlier on, declaring “open season” on what it called “anti-choice” groups and demanding that all pro-life organizations disband.

According to NBC News, pro-abortion vandals are utilizing a map created by two University of Georgia professors to target centers that provide assistance other than abortion to pregnant women. The map discloses centers’ addresses from across the nation.

A radical group from the state of Washington posted a link to the aforementioned map, along with instructions on how to go about pinpointing the locations of pro-life pregnancy centers.

Section 802 of the USA PATRIOT Act states that a person engages in domestic terrorism if said individual engages in “an act ‘dangerous to human life’ that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: (i) intimidate or coerce a civilian population…”

The FBI is succinct in its definition of domestic terrorism, identifying it as follows: “Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.”

The above-described acts in question were preceded by public messages that telegraphed political intent and specifically targeted religious groups. The acts were also carried out by those seeking to intimidate the public and to further ideological goals.

It should be called exactly what it is – domestic terrorism.

The manner in which attacks on chiefly faith-based facilities have been conducted emphasizes the heinousness of crimes committed.

One center in Colorado was torched. One in Virginia was defaced and had its windows smashed. And another in Oregon was vandalized.

In Los Angeles, California, one protestor reportedly aimed a flame thrower at a police officer, who ended up being one of four officers injured. The assailant is being charged with attempted murder.

Another group of demonstrators shut down a main highway, blocking cars and beating with sticks those who failed to stop.

In Nashville, Tennessee, a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the first-floor window of a pregnancy center. The message “Jane’s Revenge” was spray-painted on the side of the building.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee had an appropriate reaction to the crime. “This is terrorism and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Gov. Lee posted in a tweet.

Pregnancy centers across the nation provide millions of dollars worth of free services and material assistance to women who choose life over death for their unborn babies.

One of TV’s most beloved sitcom stars, “Everybody Loves Raymond”’s Patricia Heaton, helps run one of the facilities. Heaton is one of a handful of Hollywood A-listers who is willing to stand up for the pre-born and their mamas-in-waiting.

“Our medical pregnancy clinic serves client families for five years, providing superior services for anyone who asks. We raised $250K for a mobile medical clinic for underserved areas, treating everyone,” the actress recently tweeted.

Heaton used her social media account to respond to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) after an inflammatory statement was posted about pregnancy centers at a most dangerous time for the facilities.

Sen. Warren falsely claimed that these centers “mislead and deceive patients seeking abortion care,” and added that it is “more important than ever” that a “crack down” on the clinics occurs.

Heaton responded to the senator’s remark, pointing out that such incendiary language made facilities, such as the one with which she herself is affiliated, less safe.

“Because of people like @SenWarren we now have to hire armed security,” she tweeted.

Heaton has gone public with her pro-life views in the past, sharing the following: “I find it impossible to subscribe to a philosophy that believes that the destruction of human life is a legitimate solution to a problem that is mostly social, economic and psychological.”

She summarized her thoughts in one sweet sentence.

“Women who experience unplanned pregnancy also deserve unplanned joy.”
